Sponsor a Child in Uganda
Become an education sponsor and change the future prospects of one of 40 orphans in Uganda.
Why are we standing up for these children?
In Uganda, only 38% of children complete primary school, while the remaining 62% drop out before finishing. Poverty is one of the most common reasons for this.
The majority of schools in Uganda are chargeable. If you can’t afford it, you can’t go to school — it’s as simple as that. As a result, poor children are more likely to become poor adults who, in turn, are unable to pay for their children’s education.
We want to break this cycle of poverty for 40 children from two orphanages in Jinja (Uganda). There are many reasons why these children are placed in orphanages – often it is the death of their parents or extreme poverty in the family. Some children used to be street children and don’t even know their families. Many children could attend school only irregularly, or not at all.
By paying the school fees and providing school materials, we are creating new long-term prospects for these children. Our German-Ugandan team on site ensures that the aid arrives exactly where it is needed and supports the children in all challenges. To ensure the children’s long-term attendance at school, we have launched the ‘Sponsor a Child in Uganda’ programme and are looking for personal education sponsors for the children.
These children dream of becoming doctors, pilots or lawyers one day. And we are confident – they will make it. They just need a little help.

Rahim (m)
School: Day school
Rahim is 6 years old and in the first grade of primary school. He enjoys going to school and is learning to read and write. In his free time, he likes playing football. In the future, Rahim hopes to become a driver.

Jovat (m)
School: Day school
Jovat and his brother were in the hospital with their caretaker, whom they called grandmother. She was sick, and there was no one to care for them. That is how the brothers came to the orphanage, where they started school. Now Jovat is happy to study and has everything he needs for learning.
How does a sponsorship help the children in Uganda?
By sponsoring a child in Uganda (Africa), you enable them to attend school and improve their prospects for the future. Your support includes:
- School fees and school materials for the child.
- Project coordination on site: our coordinator in Uganda maintains constant dialogue with schools, orphanages and the relevant authorities. She monitors school attendance, assists children facing challenges, and obtains all necessary documents and receipts. The project wouldn’t work without a project coordinator on site.
- The transport, internet and banking costs are necessary for the project to be realised properly.
Your connection to the sponsored child in Uganda
Once you have started your sponsorship, you will receive by email a picture painted especially for you by your sponsored child from Uganda.
We will send you a report with photos and news about the child every four months by email. This allows you to be part of your sponsored child’s life and see how they are doing and what progress they are making.

What does it cost to sponsor a child in Uganda?
The sponsorship contribution covers only direct project costs in Uganda and does not include any costs on the German side.
You can claim the full amount of your sponsorship donation for Uganda on your German tax return. We will be happy to send you the annual donation receipt for the previous year at the beginning of the following year.
