Help for orphans in post-Soviet states
We organise psychological help for orphans in the Ukrainian orphanages so that children can better cope with the traumatic experiences they have had. In addition, we provide them with goods for their daily needs. If necessary and possible, we evacuate Ukrainian orphanages to Germany and continue to care for them here.
With our mentoring project, we accompany orphans in evacuated Ukrainian orphanages in a very personal way. We train mentors who give the orphans individual attention, support them according to their needs and help them integrate in Germany. A personal relationship with the mentor helps the child to better cope with the trauma they have experienced.
We help orphans with disabilities in Russia to receive adequate medical care and rehabilitation. To this end, we contribute, for example, to the costs of a 24-hour escort for the orphan's inpatient treatment, so that the child is not left alone with his or her fears in the hospital. In addition, we provide orphans with care and medical aids. Help in the health field can not only reduce their suffering, but also increase their chances of adoption.
Relevant education is essentially the only chance for an adequate future for those orphans who have no longer a chance to be adopted due to their age. We provide access for education to the orphans in post-Soviet by covering the costs of tutoring, preparation for examinations and career guidance for the young people concerned. In addition to learning, the focus is also on promoting self-employment and self-confidence.
Finding a family for an orphan child with disabilities is not easy. Few families in post-Soviet states have the courage and resources to do so. When a child with disabilities does find his or her new home, one might think, "A happy ending!" Unfortunately, often that is not the end of the story. From now on, hard daily work begins for the adopted or foster child and his or her family. Settling in, finding suitable clinics, rehabilitation, catching up on the massive gaps in their knowledge, and much more. We want to support them in this process by contributing to treatment and rehabilitation costs, tutoring and support, care and aids, etc.
The severe earthquake in Turkey in February 2023 caused millions of people to lose their livelihoods in one fell swoop. Particularly affected are the many children who now live with their families in container cities or are left behind as orphans. In cooperation with our partners, we want to help the children affected.
